Robert Burns Lodge Happenings 2016

On this page, your humble webmaster will attempt to relate what has most recently happened in our Lodge.  Mostly these will be items from recent meetings, but occasionally other items will appear here.  The webmaster hopes these notes will help to keep the Brethren current on happenings in the Lodge, and entice them to come to the next event.  If you are interested in what went on at past meetings, check out our Happenings 2014 or Happenings 2015

15 March

Brothers, this page has come to look more like the minutes of our meetings because as both Webmaster and Secretary it is cumbersome to re-type the meeting events in a conversational style. Thus, I shall post here the minutes of the meetings, with certain parts added or deleted as necessary.

15 March: The Lodge was opened on the MM Degree at 7:30 pm by WM John Hart at the Edmonds Masonic Center. Approximately 15 Brothers were present, including the following visitors: WB David Hoffman, WM of Edmonds #165, WB Kevin Haagen, WM of Ahler #121, and Bro. Romann Libermann of Edmonds #165. Dinner had been at the Taki Tiki in Edmonds preceding the meeting.

The Secretary read correspondence, which has been filed, including thanks from Edmonds Assembly #55 for our donation, a letter from Grand Lodge regarding the life membership distribution, and a letter from Grand Lodge regarding information for secretaries.

Bills were read and paid, the only one of an unusual nature being for the Lodge support of the  D2 District meeting on 7 May, which was voted on and approved by the Lodge.

Bro. Rivers spoke briefly about the meeting on how to run the building. The Lodge reviewed the Investment Guidelines prepared by WB Appel, and voted to approve them.

VWB Nygren reported on the Bikes-for-Books presentations. He said that they went well, and that he spoke briefly at each. He also reported briefly on his discussions with the Lynnwood Library regarding beginning to expand the program there, too.

The WM announced that there will be a table lodge on 3 May, and a rehearsal therefor on 5 April. Please RSVP to the SW if you intend to go. There will be a Lodge planning meeting at the WM’s house at 10 on 2 April.

The Lodge was closed in due form, peace and harmony prevailing, by the WM at 9:00 pm.

21 February: The Lodge attended the Everett Silvertips vs. Spokane Chiefs game this afternoon, and cheered the home team on to a 4-1 victory. Between our Lodge and the Job's Daughters and Rainbow Girls, 33 people were in attendance in our group. Also, everyone in our section got free tacos!

16 February: The Lodge was opened on the MM Degree at 7:30 pm by WM John Hart at the Edmonds Masonic Center. Approximately 22 Brothers were present. Guests were introduced and afforded appropriate honors. Introduced last was VWB Chris Haynes, DDGM2, who was presented at the altar, introduced in the East, and given the Public Grand Honors on the occasion of his Official Visit.

The Secretary summarized the correspondence, which has been filed, including statements of availability for JGW, the lease from the Edmonds Masonic Center, the MSA notes, and the Everett Scottish Rite Bulletin.

Bro. Lillie was directed to approach the Secretary’s desk, where he signed the by-laws and was presented with his apron insert. Bro. Rivers volunteered to represent Robert Burns at a meeting held at and by the Edmonds Masonic Center on 5 March.

VWB Haynes finished the business of the meeting with his comments, bringing greetings from the Grand Master, and encouragement as we do the difficult work of long range planning. To this end, he presented a TED talk fostering leadership after he led the Lodge in a discussion of what we found important, leading us to an impromptu mission statement, which included having the Lodge as a space where one is not judged, where we practice charity, where we have pride in our namesake, and a place where when we leave we feel better than when we arrived.

The Lodge was closed in due form, peace and harmony prevailing, by the WM at 9:25 pm.

6 February: The WM hosted a planning meeting where the long-range goals and concerns of the Lodge were discussed.

2 February: Tonight the WM met with 5 other Brothers to discuss the policy for the Investment Committee. They revised the proposed policy, and this new policy will be voted on at the February or March meeting.

19 January: The Lodge was opened on the EA Degree at 7:30 pm by WM John Hart at the Edmonds Masonic Center. Approximately 16 Brothers were present, including the following visitors: WB Tom Lamb of Edmonds #165, who was thanked at the altar by the WM for his presentation on Robert Burns the Man at the dinner before the meeting, VWB Ken Callahan and WB Jimmy Norton, who were introduced in the East and given the Public Grand Honors, WB David Hoffman, WM of Edmonds #165, who was introduced in the East and given the Public Grand Honors, and VWB Chris Haynes, DDGM2, who was introduced in the East and giving the Public Grand Honors. The WM also thanked Bro. Brent Wandel for the excellent dinner he and his wife, Erica, put on, including haggis, for our Burns Supper.

The Secretary read correspondence, which has been filed, including three memos from Grand Lodge and one from the Scottish Rite Valley of Everett. The Treasurer gave a full report of the state of Lodge finances as of the end of 2015, which has been placed on file.

Bills, having been reviewed by ther Finance Committee and all being in the 2016 budget, were read and ordered paid. Receipts were read. The WM said that the meeting on 2 February will be used for long range and investment planning. The Investment Committee guidelines proposed by the Secretary were tabled until the next stated meeting.

The WM also stated that as we have had trouble with our Lodge Planning Meetings, from now on they will be at 10am at his home on the 1st Saturday of the month.

Bro. Appel asked if there were any Brothers to attend the hockey game on 21 February, and several responded. He said he needs RSVPs by the 29th of January. The JW announced that on 21 January we will be visiting Ashler Lodge for their stated meeting. VWB Haynes announced that it will be the Ashler chili cook-off, attended by the MWGM.

WB Norton announced that the District will hold Deacons & Stewards training on 30 January at 9 am at Ashler Lodge. The Lodge also discussed briefly the OVDD by VWB Haynes, to be held on 16 February.  WB Appel announced the upcoming dates of Edmonds Assembly Rainbow meetings, and that he will be installed as Rainbow Dad on 25 January.

VWB Haynes finished the business of the meeting with his comments, bringing greetings from the Grand Master, and encouragement as we do the difficult work of long range planning. He also announced there will be a district meeting on 7 May.

The Lodge was closed in due form, peace and harmony prevailing, by the WM at 8:55 pm.
