Robert Burns #243 Trestleboard
From the East
Brothers of Robert Burns, this trestleboard is going to be a little different from the other ones. You will notice that all the entries have a specific message. And that message is that the Lodge needs help. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, or try to make it seem better than it is. Our Lodge sits on a precipice, for the last few years we have been in decline. Only the valiant efforts of the membership have kept us going. But we need help. I am pulling on all of your cabletows now for if you want to see our Lodge continue on and grow back into a successful and prosperous one, we all need to pull together and help. We need officers, we need new members, and we need to work together as Brothers.
I am asking each and every one of you to come forward and step up to fill the gaps in our line, and to help us recover. During my year as Master, I have done my best to grow our Lodge but I need your help. And the Masters who will succeed me also need your help. This isn't a message that is easy to take, every single member of Robert Burns has put their personal time and energy into the Lodge, and to hear that we may not be able to continue on into the future isn't something I want to have to tell you. But if Masonry has taught me one thing, it's that when you are in need you need only to turn to a Brother and he will aid and assist you as far as their abilities permit.
So if you are able and willing please reach out and offer what assistance you can. We need officers, but if that isn't something you are able to do there are many ways you can help. Offer to drive a brother to Lodge, or cook dinner. Help plan an event or even just show up at a meeting and join in fellowship. Our meeting on November 4th is elections and also step up night, I ask you to attend and before that reach out and offer assistance.
Asking for help is not an easy thing to do, but if there is one thing I have learned while sitting in the East its that I can not do this alone. Thank you, Brothers.

From the South
I wish I could regale you with stories of how prosperous YOUR Lodge is doing, I wish I could report to you that YOUR Lodge membership participation is strong, and YOU need not worry that YOUR Lodge has a bright future ahead. But that would be a lie.
I still remember the day when I learned that the Brethren of Robert Burns cast their favorable votes and I was granted the privilege and honor of becoming a Mason.
Sitting on the side lines after my EA degree I whispered to my friend (who just became a brother to me) how impressed I was with the ritual and told him I could never sit in one of those chairs and do that. I will be a strong supporter of the Lodge, but I am unable to memorize the parts and would never sit in the chairs.
Wow some years later I am a Past Master, I will not kid you it was not easy and took a lot of work, some personal sacrifice and a lot of effort , but the personal rewards were worth it!
Brethren of Robert Burns 243, YOUR lodge needs YOU!
YOU are the lodge without YOU there is no lodge.
November 4th is our next stated meeting at the Edmonds Masonic center, it is also step up night for the incoming officers, please make an effort to come and support the incoming officers and YOUR lodge.

From the Editor
I have written here before that as editor of this Trestleboard, I have the privilege of reading everyone else's submissions, and then getting in one final comment. This edition is no different.
Simply put, your officers above have laid out the truth, and have asked you to rise to the challenge. The Lodge is in need; not of money (not that we are tripping over piles of cash, mind you), but of your participation. We need Brothers to fill in the officer chairs, and Brothers to rise to the challenge of learning parts in the ritual. We need Brothers to sit on our sidelines and at our dinners and make our meetings vibrant and fun. We need Brothers to support our youth groups (check the Upcoming Events page for when & where they meet). We need Brothers to visit other Lodges nearby and the Lodge Officer Association meetings to improve our relations with other Lodges. Perhaps most importantly, we need Brothers to spread the word that Robert Burns is a vital Lodge, and one worth looking into.
Please come out to our meeting on 4 November (6:30 dinner, 7:30 meeting opening) at the Edmonds Masonic Center.
Remember why you joined Masonry and Robert Burns. Share that memory with someone. Fight the decline of your Lodge, and Masonry in general, with your own participation.
