Master's Jewel      From the East

Brethren,

Brothers, it was nice to hear that the proposed by-laws change was approved, and our new stated meeting day is the 3rd Tuesday (except July and August). I believe the change in our stated date will open up opportunities for more visitations. It will also open up the 1st Tuesday for practice/ritual work and just fellowship nights.

Work is always crazy during the summer, I haven’t even been able to go camping at the Masonic park like I like to do. There is a planned camping trip at the Masonic park for the weekend of July 25th. A Mariners game for August 23rd ($57 dollars per ticket) and the charity I support we will roast a whole pig at the park and sell tickets for a luau on Sept 12th. If you are interested in attending or supporting any one of these events contact me.

Be well Brothers, I hope you are enjoying the summer, remember to keep in touch.

Fraternally,

WB John Hart

Master's Jewel      From the West

Brethren,

We just returned from Grand Lodge but spent a great deal of it in our 5th wheel. My bride, Aretta and I contracted the sore throat, congestion, wheezy crud going around and air conditioning was not a good thing to be in. (We are both feeling much better now.) Grand Lodge in Kennewick was a great venue and the electronic balloting for resolutions went very smoothly. (It was great to see results in a matter of seconds with the actual percentages for and against.)

The results of the voting on resolutions appear at the bottom of this page.

Masonic Trivia

The Forget-Me-Not.  As early as the year 1934, after Hitler's rise to power, it became apparent that Freemasonry was in danger.  In the same year, the German Grand Lodge of the Sun in Bayreuth (one of the pre-war German Grand Lodges), realized the imminent problems facing them and elected a little blue flower, the Forget-Me-Not, in lieu of the traditional Square and Compasses, as a mark of identity for Masons.

It was felt that the new symbol would not attract attention from the Nazis, who were in the process of confiscating and appropriating Masonic Lodges and property.  Masonry had gone underground and it was necessary that the Brethren have some recognizable means of identification.  Throughout the entire Nazi era, the little blue flower in the lapel marked Brothers in Concentration Camps as well as in the cities.  In 1947, when the Grand Lodge of the Sun was reopened in Bayreuth, the Forget-Me-Not was adopted as the official emblem of the first annual convention of those who survived the bitter years.

In 1948, the pin was adopted as an official Masonic emblem honoring those valiant Brethren who carried their work on under adverse conditions.  At the Grand Masters Conference in the United States, Dr. Theodore Vogel, Grand Master of the newly formed UGL, AF & AM presented one of the pins to each of the representatives of the Grand Jurisdictions with which the UGL, A.F. & A.M. enjoyed Fraternal relations. Although some believe that this was Hitler's favorite, his favorite flower was actually the Edelweiss, which is a beautiful alpine mountain flower.

Masonic Humor

A burglar broke into an old Past Master's house one night. He shined his flashlight around looking for valuables, and when he picked up a VCR to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus is watching you."  He nearly jumped out of his pants!! He clicked his flashlight out and froze.

When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a long vacation after his next big score, then clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you." He freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot... "Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot. "Yep," the parrot confessed, then squawked, "I'm just trying to warn you." The burglar relaxed. "Warn me, huh? Who the heck are you?" "Moses," replied the bird. "Moses?" the burglar laughed. "What kind of people would name a parrot Moses?" The bird promptly answered, "Probably the same kind of people that would name a 160lb Rottweiler Jesus."

MASONIC QUIZ

Can the Standard Work of a foreign jurisdiction be used to confer a Degree in this Grand Jurisdiction?

Senior Warden

Master's Jewel      From the Secretary's Table

Brethren,

At the March stated meeting, the Senior Warden proposed a change to the Lodge by-laws, to move our meeting night from the first Tuesday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month.  At a vote on the proposed change held at our April stated meeting, the Lodge approved of the change by a greater than 2/3 majority of votes cast. The Lodge has recently received the approved by-laws from the Grand Lodge office, with the signature of the Grand Master, MWB Don Munks. This being the case, our stated meeting September, and all following stated meetings, will be held on the third Tuesday of the month, in this case the 15th of September. Please change your calendars accordingly, and plan to attend our September meeting.

Many writers and thinkers have tried to define Freemasonry but it really defeats definition. It is too complex, too profound in conception, to easily expressed in words. Perhaps the simplest and best definition of all is the phrase "the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God." Our Masonic forefathers had an understanding of human needs and human aspirations. They may never have dreamed of the mindless computer which governs our lives, or the fission of matter which threatens our lives, but they understood human nature and what motivates the spirit of man. Thus from a simple process of using stone and mortar for building they progressed to the most important of life's functions, the building of character.”
